Still wondering if a new heat pump installation is right for you?
[Speak to Ottawa Home Services About Heat Pump Installation]
Are Ottawa Heat Pumps Energy-Efficient?
Yes. Heat pumps in Ottawa are extremely efficient, especially when compared to traditional combustion-based systems. In fact, they are one of the most eco-friendly climate control systems on the market, boasting an efficiency rate of up to 140%.
If you are looking to lower your carbon footprint and reduce energy consumption, we suggest variable-speed models. These units maximize energy efficiency by automatically adjusting to your household’s heating and cooling demands; you’ll have cool or warm air exactly when you need it.
Rebates With the Canada Greener Homes Grant
The government of Canada is rewarding homeowners who make their homes more energy efficient, and, due to heat pump efficiency, many Ottawa Home Services installations qualify.
Sizable government rebates are available (up to $10,600 in some cases) under the Canada Greener Homes Grant program. You can also get access to an interest-free loan from the Canada Greener Homes Loan worth up to $40,000!
To be considered, you must register for the program plus complete EnerGuide evaluations (to measure energy savings) before and after you have your heat pump installed. NOTE: These heat pumps must be installed with a qualifying furnace or air handler to qualify for the grant.
To help you take advantage of this grant, we’ve created a step-by-step guide describing the Greener Homes Grant application process.
How Do Home Heat Pumps Work In Ottawa?
A truly unique dual heating and cooling option, heat pumps are often the perfect HVAC system for Ottawa homeowners.
Heat pumps do not rely on (or burn) fuel to generate heat. Instead, air source heat pumps evaporate and condense the refrigerant and, through this process, the system transfers heat from one place to another. When a heat pump is in heating mode, it absorbs heat (in the form of thermal energy) from the outdoor air and moves it inside to warm your home. Then, during Ottawa’s hottest months, the process is reversed, and the heat pump works as a cooling system or air conditioner.
You may have also heard of heat pumps that extract heat from other sources. A geothermal heat pump (or ground source heat pump) pulls energy from the soil, and a water source heat pump draws leverages heat energy from groundwater. Neither system is common in Ottawa.
When choosing an air source heat pump, you have two energy-saving options: a ducted system or a ductless system. Ottawa Home Services installs and maintains both types of air source heat pumps and will work with you to determine the ideal heat pump technology for your home. In addition, as part of the consultation process, we’ll discuss special “cold-climate” or hybrid models that can handle Ottawa’s cold temperatures. The limited use of an existing natural gas furnace or other heating appliance can also help you stay toasty and warm during our frigid cold spells.
When you switch to a heat pump, you’ll enjoy lower monthly utility bills. This is because an energy-efficient heat pump product is now responsible for the lion’s share of your home heating.
We’re confident that your heat pump will continually provide comfort to your Ottawa home if you take care of it. Ottawa Home Services offers heat pump protection plans which include annual maintenance and tune-ups that keep your system running like new year-round.
