What Do Our Technical Terms Mean?

SEER

SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio) tells you how efficient your air conditioner is – the higher the number the better. This number is calculated by dividing the unit’s cooling ability in British thermal units divided by the wattage required to power it.

The SEER value provided is obtainable provided your home has the appropriate indoor air coil installed.

Cooling Capacity

All air conditioners are designed to move heat from one area (your home) to another (the outdoors). It’s the exact same principle as your refrigerator.

The amount of heat your air conditioner can move is actually measured in British thermal units (BTUs) per hour. But because people used to measure cooling capacity in tons, this value is mapped to the equivalent tonnage. A 1-ton air conditioner will remove 12,000 BTUs of heat per hour.

This is a very simple explanation. Needless to say, it’s best to ask us what tonnage you need based on the size, sun exposure, and insulation level of your home.

Compressor

The performance capacity of an air conditioner’s compressor has a big impact on its efficiency and its ability to keep the coolness level of your home nice and even.

A single stage compressor can only operate at one speed, and therefore is only ever either on or off. This allows your home’s temperature to rise and fall more dramatically, creating a greater temperature variation in your home, and forcing your air conditioner to work harder once it’s realized the temperature has dropped.

Two stage and variable stage compressors are increasingly more efficient. They can adapt to the temperature at the time, using only the power needed.

There are two types of compressors: reciprocating and scrolling. Scrolling compressors are both more energy efficient and less noisy. Because they have fewer moving parts, scrolling compressors are also less likely to break down.

Get Expert Help With Your Decision

100 Percent Satisfaction GuaranteedIt’s important to us that you get the right central air conditioner – not necessarily the most expensive one. That’s why we provide you with our satisfaction guarantee.

Our process is simple but effective:

  1. An AC expert visits your home and calculates your needs in terms of size and power. this is because every home has a different size (square footage), insulation level (including windows and doors), sun exposure and ceiling height.
  2. At the same time we find out what your needs are. Are you bothered by different temperatures in different parts of your home? Are you concerned about rising electricity costs? Are you on a tight budget?
  3. We explain the benefits and costs for any model or models we think may suit your needs.
  4. Once you indicate your preference, we provide you with a FREE quote. Then we wait for you to decide. We don’t hassle you at all and the price stays valid for 30 days, giving you plenty of time.
  5. When you approve the quote we advise you how our professional installation process works. You’ll know who your team is in advance, exactly when they’ll arrive and what will happen.
  6. After installation, we clean up the area so you would never know anyone had been in your home – except your new AC of course!
  7. We contact you after installation to ensure everything is to your satisfaction.

Now that’s thorough!
