Program Overview
The Home Renovation Savings Program is delivered by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy, with support from the Ontario government.
It’s designed to help homeowners upgrade to more energy-efficient heating and cooling. It covers a range of upgrades, including air source and ground source heat pumps, solar panels, windows and doors, and more.
Do You Qualify for the Heat Pump Rebate?
The program has clear eligibility rules. To qualify for a heat pump rebate, your home needs to meet the following criteria:
- You’re upgrading to a heat pump for the first time. Replacing an existing heat pump doesn’t qualify.
- You own the home where the heat pump will be installed.
- You’re an Enbridge Gas residential customer with an active account who primarily heats with natural gas or a boiler, or you’re connected to the Ontario electricity grid and heat with electricity, oil, propane, or wood.
- Your home is a single detached, semi-detached, row house, townhome, or mobile home on a permanent foundation.
- Your home isn’t a new build. Homes occupied for six months or less don’t qualify.
How Much Can You Get Back?
There are two rebate amounts for a cold climate air source heat pump, depending on how you heat your home today:
- Enbridge Gas customers who primarily heat with natural gas or a boiler: $500 per ton, up to $2,000 back.
- Electric, oil, propane, or wood customers: $1,250 per ton, up to $7,500 back.
Most Ottawa homeowners are Enbridge Gas customers, which means the rebate you’ll qualify for is up to $2,000.
You’ll often see the $7,500 figure advertised, and it’s real, but it only applies to homes heated with electricity, oil, propane, or wood. We’d rather tell you what’s realistic for your situation upfront than surprise you later.
The rebate is calculated per ton of heat pump capacity. As part of our free in-home consultation, we handle those calculations for you, so you’ll know
How the Heat Pump Rebate Process Works
The rebate has several steps, and each one has to happen in the right order. Ottawa Home Services manages the process from start to finish.
Step 1: Free Assessment
An Ottawa Home Services specialist visits your home and performs a heat load and heat gain calculation to determine the right size of heat pump for your home and confirm your eligibility.
Step 2: Pre-Approval
We submit your pre-installation application to the program for approval. Pre-approval is mandatory. Any installation completed before approval doesn’t qualify for the rebate.
Step 3: Installation
Once you’re approved, our team installs your heat pump using a qualified product from NRCan’s approved list of cold climate air source heat pumps.
Step 4: Post-Installation Documentation
We collect the required photos and documentation and submit your post-installation application to the program.
Step 5: Receive Your Rebate
Once your post-installation application is approved, your rebate arrives by cheque in the mail within 60 days.
Why Choose Ottawa Home Services For Your Heat Pump Installation
The rebate process rewards getting the details right. It has multiple steps, firm deadlines, and specific documentation requirements.
Pre-approval is mandatory, and installing before you’re approved, or missing a required step, can mean losing the rebate entirely. That’s why it pays to work with a contractor who knows the program inside and out.
Ottawa Home Services is a participating contractor, and we handle the full process for you:
- Free in-home assessment
- Pre-approval application
- Qualified product selection
- Post-installation documentation
- Submitting the rebate request
This means you get the rebate you’re entitled to, without the paperwork headaches. But we’ve built our reputation on more than just rebates:
- Since 2003, we’ve kept Ottawa homes comfortable
- A+ accreditation with the Better Business Bureau since 2004
- 4.9/5 rating on Google from 1,000+ friends and neighbours in the Greater Ottawa Region
- Expert team of licensed technicians offering friendly, professional service
- No commissions or door-to-door sales

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the rebates end?
Most likely, at some point. The program is running now, and no firm end date has been set. That said, rebate programs like this one can change or wind down with little notice, so if a heat pump is on your radar, it’s worth looking into while the funding is still available.
Do I need a home energy assessment to qualify?
No. A heat pump installed on its own doesn’t require a home energy assessment under this program.
Can I apply for the rebate myself, without a contractor?
No. The rebate has to go through a participating contractor. Ottawa Home Services is a participating contractor, so we apply on your behalf as part of the process.
Does the rebate apply to a rental property?
Yes, a home you own but rent out can participate as long as it meets the program’s eligibility criteria. The program requires the owner (not the tenant) to submit the application, and you’re welcome to participate for each eligible home you own.
